What Causes Loss Of Speech To 7 Months Old With Chronic Lung Disease?
One of my twins is starting to lose his voice. He is a 7mth old premie w/chronic lung disease due to prematurity, and is on 1/8L oxygen. He is just getting over an ear infection and was having to work a little harder to breath, just finished a 14 day predisone treatment. He is on .8ml lasix 1xday, singular 1xday, nasonex 1xday, albuterol nebulizer every 4hrs as needed, zantac .4ml 2xday, and poly vi sol vitamins 1xday. No fever was eating fine but I can tell his throat is starting to hurt plus you can hear it when he s crying.
couldnt get a clearcut idea from your short history , but i feel being given lasix and others child has some congenital heart disease for which you re treated probably acyanotic. left atrial enlargement may cause compression of recurrent laryngeal nerve and cause voice loss. besides you ve mentioned ear infection which is if due to pneumococcus or h. influenza may cause deafness and secondary to it speech can be impaired.with history of chronic lung disease , otitis media and dry throat better to rule out cystic fibrosis, AAT etc.,
