What Causes Low Blood Sugar Level?

My mom has been a long time Diabetic on 70/30 insulin 2 times a day. Recently she has been having frequent low sugars...usually in the early am. Her PCP is trying to do lantus only and titraing it up but it seems that she is still having lows at 4am. She is 5 foot weight 180 . She recently has loss about 70lbs . Should we switch to an oral agent .PCP afraid of her renal function while in hospital last year her lasix made her creatinine bump up to 1.6

When a diabetic who has had uncontrolled sugars start to get low sugars suddenly it usually means her kidneys are getting affected i would suggest you to get your mom's kidneys checked up by you doctor also get insulin dose adjusted.
