What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain In A Diabetic Patient?
My husband age 63 has lower abdominal pain for the last 3-4 months He has RA diabetes treated with Jenumet and heart problems I am concerned since he has lost about 25 pounds in 2 months w/o really changing his diet though he does not eat much anymore weight loss is in legs and hips stomach is still large
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your 63 year old husband and understood the concerns. Rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes can cause weight loss if not well controlled hence it is of utmost importance that a regular review by a Doctor for control is needed. Pain in lower abdomen for 3-4 month needs to be well investigated if there is associated weight loss too without an obvious explanation when there is no change in diet. Hence I would advise him the following in such a situation: Clinical evaluation, examination by a General Surgeon. CT scan of abdomen and colonoscopy are very important. Test urine and stool. Tests of blood for diabetes, CBC, tumor markers and so on should be done. Al these will get a correct diagnosis and a proper plan of management. Cancer should be ruled out as soon as possible.
