What Causes Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

Hello, I m a 55-year-old man, 5 7 , 250lbs with mild type 2 diabetes. for the past week I ve had a metallic taste in my saliva, mostly from the left side of my mouth. Not constant but very intense when it happens. I generally fast for 20-hours a day and eat one meal. My medications are Losartan-HCTZ 100-25mg, Amlodipine Besylate 2,5mg, Metformin HCL 1000mg (all daily doses) and 81mg Aspirin. Non-smoker, rarely drink, no health issues other than those above and spinal stenosis. Am concerned about metallic taste.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Metallic taste in the mouth may be due to bleeding in the mouth or infection or postnasal discharge or acid reflux or drugs like iron or Metronidazole or Hydrochlorothiazide, etc. Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. use salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Check for pharyngitis or rhinitis and get treated accordingly. If symptoms not improved please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
