Hi iam 35 years old.I have a 9yr old baby and had a miscarriage in 2012. now i have missed period and its 1 week.Iam taking medication for hypothyrodism. I do not work and have no stress lifestyle. MY question ishow early do i need to visit doctor asi had a previous history of miscarriage. please suggest. Also cani continue my thyroxine medicine as usual till visiting.
Hi there, After going through your question, I am of the opinion that: 1) Normally, as soon as pregnancy is detected in a hypothyroid patient, we increase the dose of thyroid hormone by 25 to 50%. 2) If you have a history of early abortions, we start progesterone supplementation as well as folic acid tablets as soon as possible. 3) Causes of miscarriage are many. It could be due to chromosomal abnormalities, reduced progesterone hormone, implantation failure, some problem in placentation, thyroid problems, diabetes etc. 4) My suggestion is that you go and visit your doctor as soon as possible and continue thyroid medications till then.
I hope this was helpful. Regards, Dr. Shikha Shah
