What Causes Mood Swings In A Woman Who Had Replaced The Knee?
my grandmother had her knee replaced 5-6 weeks ago. since then, she cries all the time, then cusses anyone out and has kicked people out of her house. she has always been grouchy, but NOT like this. she barely answers the phone, and has disconnected her doorbell. her orthpedist said it is related to her surgery/meds. her hand has also been numb since surgery also. again-blamed on surgery. i'm a nurse, so i am no dummy, but this just seems like it is not getter better but worse. i'm worried she may have sufferred a small stroke affecting her mood control.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Knee replacement surgery has a risk of cerebrovascular accidents. But most are well controlled by anticoagulant medications regularly. You should get a physical examination by a physician or neurologist and have a CT scan of brain if needed to rule out any mild stroke which has occured. Like you said in some kind of strokes mood changes are seen and hand numbness gives more suspicion towards that.Early stages she will be benefitted by medications like citicholine.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
