What Causes Muscle Spasms And Headache While On Pravastatin?
Hi, My 83 year old mother is taking pravastatin 10 day for high cholestral. It s @239.She is petite 5 3 &105lbs.She s been taking it for about 3 yrs.She is experiencing muscle spasms extremely excruciating in her neck&shoulders also all the way down her left arm, headache, nausea&her left foot isn t picking up properly when she walks so she went to the hospital. They have done an MRI,CT SCAN, BLOOD TESTS,CHEST XRAY&now a stress test. The results have been negative on the tests.I was wondering if the pravastatin could be the cause of this?I ve read online that it could but the doctor says no.
I gone through your queries. According to me all your symptoms are due to Pravastatin. It's acute side effects includes headaches, nausea & vomitting. Long term use are associated with muscle pain, myopathies which you are experiencing now. To relieve acute symptoms like nausea/headache, you take pravastatin with a full glass of water. It should be taken at bedtime because maximum cholesterol synthesis occurs at midnight. You can change to Atorvastatin 10 mg at night after concerning to your treating physician.
Thank you.
