What Causes Nausea And Bloating After Eating Full Sized Meals?

I am a recovered eating disorder patient of 2 years, with slight relapses in between. Every time I eat a normal sized meal I am extremely nauseous/bloated for 3-4 hours after wards. I know that was normal when I was in rehab in the beginning of recovery, but it s been two years. Is it possible that I did permanent damage to my digestive system?

Hi,

There can be multiple causes for bloating after full size meals as:

- liver swelling as from fatty liver, hepatitis or else
- gall bladder calculus or acalculus conditions
- bile drainage system disturbances
- chronic intestine infections
- chronic gastritis, duodenitis with or without ulcer
- pancreatic problems
- systemic issues of hormone imbalance
- others

One needs systemic evaluation with thorough history, physical examination and a series of ultrasound with upper GI endoscopy to proceed further in the direction of cure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
