What Causes Nausea And Cold Sweats While Eating?

My grandmother is 84 with dementia. She has hypertension and mild diabetes. For about two days now every time she is eating she breaks out in cold sweats, seams nauseous, looks like she is about to pass out. She also has a cough but I figured that s due to the weather. I check her blood sugar each time and it goes up while she is eating. She has at least one bowel movement everyday. During the times this has happened she said her stomach is upset and she belches a lot as if she is getting relief. She eats three meals a day and drinks about 50-60 oz of water, OJ or Boost. What s happening?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

First of all,it would be better if you can tell me what blood work has been to her so far.

The causes of nausea or cold sweats after eating certain foods could be anxiety or stress or orthostatic tachycardia syndrome which can also be triggered by eating certain foods like refined carbohydrates, white flour.

She must go to physician or cardiologist to check your EKG,2D Echocardiography of heart to rule out any heart pathology.

There are many causes ,however, I would like to have more of your medical history and information like,
1) have you checked her blood pressure while having an episode?
2) have you experienced her dizziness after eating anything special food?
3) are the episodes common throughout the day or certain moments?

If her blood pressure comes normal, then, it might be because of disturbances in the middle ear like labyrinthitis or spondiloarthritis.

So, I' would suggest you to consult with ENT specialist and neurologist.

General & Family Physician Dr. Kathy Robinson's  Response
Hello,
She may have an ulcer or other problem in her stomach causing these symptoms. It would be best for her to see a doctor for an exam and some testing to figure out the cause.
I hope she is doing better soon,
K. Robinson MD
