What Causes Nausea?

I was laying under the sink working on plumbing and I got nauseous. Had a CAT scan to check all head and neck veins to make sure there was nothing wrong there since I am 63 (female). All was good. NOW I was standing on a ladder painting upwards and same thing is happening.

Hi,
Thanks for asking in HCM.

There can be a two possibilities for your nausea while working under the sink or bending forward.

It could be due to sudden drop in the blood pressure as a result of change in posture (known as orthostatic hypotension) and that will also lead to fall down blood pressure in intra-cranial arteries in brain which causes your nauseating feeling.

Generally,CT scan of brain comes normal in this kind of cases and I do not think there is anything to be worried here.

The other reason could be the movement of small hairs i.e. cilia in the semi circular canals of the middle ear while we bend forward from a standing position or sudden standing from a bending position which could be the reason for your nausea during painting upwards while standing on ladder.

Or it might be either drug induced or some sort of infective component.

You can consult ENT specialist for clinical examination of the ear canal and physician for your blood pressure and its medications.

Thanks and Regards,
