What Causes Neck Pain In A Child After Being Treated For Fractured Skull?
Hi, my little boy (3½) had an accident in December 2010, where a concrete pillar fell onto him and pinned him to another pillar. He was in Paeds ICU with a fractured skull and C1 vertebra was twisted at a 30 degree angle and he had 2kg traction for this, and a soft collar for 6 weeks after he was discharged. It s now been nine months and he still occassionally complains about his neck being sore. E.g. he can t lie back in the bath and hold his head up so I can rinse his hair. Is this normal for recovery or should I have him checked out by the orthopaedic surgeon who assisted us in Dec? Thanks, Lee
Hi..this is not normal. I suggest you get back to the orthopedic surgeon regarding this. There could be a remnant neurological deficit which is making his head lifting antalgic in certain positions. I suggest getting an MRI or brain and spine to check for any compressions. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
