What Causes Neck Pain, Nausea And Tingling Sensation In The Scalp?

Hello Dr Rynne....My name is Maria....It is a pleasure to meet you. Dr. Rynne for as long as I can remember I have been suffering with moderate to suffer at times pain in either the right side of my neck area or the left side of my neck area. Usually when in severe pain I also become naseaus or may even vomit and the pain also affects the back of the eyes on the area the hurts etc. right or left side. Usually when the pain starts to subside....even if it s just a little....I will get a tingling sensation on the top side of my head where the pain is....etc right side or left. This is an everyday occurance lately and nothing I take seems to work. I have been told it could be due to problems in my cervical. And my co-worker have given me piroxicam & vitamin B6....from Cuba which is the only thing that has brought me some kind of relief.

Hello,

Parasthesias like burning/tingling on the scalp can be due to several reasons.

Dandruff, eczema of the scalp, or diseases affecting nerves like diabetes, vitamin B12 deficiency. In some patients, anxiety, and stress can trigger such symptoms.

Eczema and dandruff usually will be associated with hair loss. Since you are complaining of the tingling only on a dime-sized area more serious condition like stroke is not a concern.

Physical examination, blood sugar levels, vitamin B12 levels, complete blood count are warranted at this point. Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
