What Causes Night Sweats And Elevated Body Temperature?

I am a post-menopausal women (66 - had hysterectomy at age 54) and have been on an estrogen patch (estradiol 0.05 mg) since then. I rarely got night sweats in the past but in the past 6 mos. or so, I get overheated without exercise. I am also getting night sweats. I am not overweight, walk daily and eat healthy. I do have hypo-thyroidism and take Synthroid for that. What could be causing this change in body temp?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Night sweat or evening rise in temperature can be caused by Hodgkin's lymphoma and tuberculosis. Night sweating can also occur in pheochromocytoma, carcinoid syndrome and hyperthyroidism .Check your serum Free T3,Free T4 & TSH to exclude any transition to hyperthyroidsm.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would recommend you to check your thyroid hormones T3, T4, TSH. Maybe you are taking more Synthroid than you need or may be a conversion to hyperthyrosis. Also a total blood count is recommended to be evaluated for Hodgkin's lymphoma. Also other diseases, such as carcinoid and pheochromocytoma or tuberculosis can cause elevate body temperature and give night sweats.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Best regards.
