Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My sister is an addict, currently addicted to meth. She shoots it up. She has had a problelm with low iron in the last year. She had to get two blood transfusions to help remedy this problem. Recently she has had nosebleeds and a very difficult time with her bowel movements. But today, she vomitted blood. It looked like almost 4 cups with at least half a cup of congealed blood. We are trying to take her to the hospital right now. She refuses to go and we are going to force her. What do you think is wrong?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history related to your sister. She is addicted to meth, has low iron for which she needed 2 blood transfusions. Now she has nose bleed and difficulty in passing bowel movement. Vomited blood today, I would think of the following: It looks that the meth is taking its toll, causing constipation a known complication, hence the passage of difficulty in bowel movements. Secondly the nose bleed can be due to local reaction in the nose causing the bleed to occur. The nose bleed must have been swallowed by her and that caused the vomit fill of blood. Yes, she needs to be taken to the ER for clinical examination, to find the cause and to get treated accordingly.
