What Causes Nose Bleeds?

my husband has been getting nosebleeds for about 6 months or so now but the strange part is it only happens after hes been lying down sleeping,as he is sitting up his nose will just pour what we believe is bloos.It is dark brown but started out as a lght brownish color.Im worried his liver could be acting up as he has Hep C. He is 42 years old,weighs aprox 210 lbs and is generally in good health.I must say that he is a drug addict and is on methadone for about 10 years now and still uses once in awhile.Is it actual blood coming from his nose and who should we go see about this? My doctor who prescrihes me my methadone and he is aware that my husband has Hep C.What kinds of tests can they do to find out what is the cause of it and what he can do to stop it from happeniing again.We are both very nervous about this so any adive you can give to us wouod be so greatly appreciated more than you know.Thank you for taking the time to read my question,

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
I have gone through your query & understand your concern.
He needs to be reviewed by ENT specialist as his nosebleeds seem like to be occuring due to some local cause in the nose. Spontaneous nosebleeds may occur in long standing hepatitis B or C infection so following blood tests need to be done;
blood complete picture,
PT & aPTT
