Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 5 year old son broke his nose about a month ago, it seemed to heal fine but this week he s been complaining that his nose is burning. It seems to come and go. He also has autism so it s difficult to get him to describe it much more than that, but this morning he was really upset about it.
I hope the advice I provide will allow him to enjoy the holiday season. The most common causes of nose burning:
-too much dryness in the air
-a food allergy
-strong odors
-dust or smoke
-a foreign body (like a small toy) in a nostril
-picking nose
-rubbing nose with a rough cloth especially when he has a bad cold
If the air is dry in your home, you might consider obtaining a humidifier. Saline nose drops (available over-the-counter) one-two drops each nostril if he will allow several times a day for nose picking and colds.
If there is a foreign body, usually there is a yellow nasal discharge.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
