What Causes Numbness And Pain In The Toe?

On my right 4th toe there is an area (outside half towards end) that has gone partially numb and is also somewhat painful. It’s particularly painful when bumped. I have not recently changed shoes and all are pretty comfortable with ample width. It seems to have started about 3-4 weeks ago.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a pinched nerve or local inflammation in this area. Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam, a foot X ray study, inflammation tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR), calcium and uric acid plasma levels. If all the above tests result normal, performing a nerve conduction studies may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
