What Causes Numbness And Swelling In Buttocks After A Tailbone Injury?
I injured my tailbone 3 weeks ago after a nasty fall. I had several bruises on my backside and thought the numbness was due to swelling. Since I continue to feel numbness and it is still quite swollen. Not sure why it is not healing. Also feels like a pulled muscle in right cheek which pain travels down right leg. Is it common for it to take weeks to heal?
Get examined by an orthopedist. Get an X-ray done to confirm/rule out fracture. Fractured tail bone takes a longer time to heal. It will get healed in 8-12 weeks. Stay patient and let it heal. Stay at rest and avoid doing any physical work that aggravates your system.
Nerve impingent can cause such symptoms. Giving cold and hot treatment is effective and helps to give relieve. Take quality sleep. Developing peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, etc. also cause such symptoms. Get underlying health condition treated as it cause symptoms that your are experiencing. Deficiency of vitamin B6, B12 may cause these symptoms. Take supplements.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
