What Causes Numbness And Swelling In Left Arm When Lying Down?

I have to sleep on my right side due to arm and fingers of my left arm going numb to the point of hurting...when I awake in the morning, my hand is swollen and my fingers hurt as thought it is the bones.....the joints of both hands are very painful when I open and close my hands....what causes this?
