What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Hands And Feet?
In the past two years I ve been experiencing numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, sometimes the lower legs and arms. I ve felt occasional muscle spasm in the eyebrow or shoulders more so under stress. I am always fatigued and have more recently noticed occasional bruising in places I don t recall suffering any trauma to. Lastly I am also noticing what feels like joint stiffness. I have already set an appointment with a physician. But it is quite some time away. What do you think could be some logical diagnosis for what I m feeling?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would explain that your symptoms could be related to a chronic infection or a metabolic disorder. An autoimmune disorder like arthritis can not be excluded either. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:
- a resting ECG
- a chest X ray study
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction
- blood electrolytes for any possible imbalances
- vitamin D and vitamin B12 plasma levels for possible deficiency. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
