What Causes Numbness In My Mouth After Taking Novocaine?

i received novocaine for a filling replacement on friday morning. mouth remained numb all day. woke up on saturday morning with the chipmunk affect. mouth felt fine but my cheek was very swollen with a noticeable red mark on my outer cheek. i ve never had a reaction to novocaine. looked info up on the web and it states that ice, ibuprofen and rest are the only healers, which should happen in 2-3 days. it s been 3 days since my appointment. should i seek further doctor s assistance since the swelling is still apparent?

Answer : Novocaine is Procaine, a local anaesthetic agent. The main action of that is to produce numbness.

But Swelling is to be looked at. So I suggest that you further seek doctor's assistance since the swelling is still apparent
