What Causes Numbness In Thumb And First Three Fingers?

I seem to have numbness in the thumb and first three fingers on my left hand. It developed about 2 weeks ago starting in the thumb then the first finger, both are mostly all numb and the tips of the middle and ring finger came on over time.
Any thoughts as to what may be causing this?
