Hello!
Thank you for your question on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would explain that her symptoms seem to be related to
thyroid dysfunction.
You should know that thyroid dysfunction can lead to cardiomyopathy, uncontrolled
high blood pressure and
cardiac embolism, leading to repeated strokes, even on warfarine therapy.
I recommend consulting with the
neurologist for a careful physical examiantion.
A brain MRI is necessary to exclude other intracranial causes of face numbness (like multiple sclerosis associated to other
autoimmune disorders, etc.)
Further tests like :
- a routine blood count
- inflammation tests ( fibrinogen, PCR, sedimentation rate)
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes
- lipid profile
- fasting sugar
are needed to exclude other causes of headache.
I recommend to closely monitor her blood pressure, because uncontrolled high blood pressure can be the cause of episodes of severe headache.
Thyroid dysfunction can cause also exacerbation of migraine attacks.
I recommend discussing with her attending physician on the above mentioned possibilities.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best regards,
Dr. Aida
