What Causes Pain And Discomfort During Bowel Movement?

Hello Doctor I am suffering from discomfort and pain while passing stool. Someone has advised me that it can be a colon fissure and advised me to apply an ointment Named Lidocaine ointment USP (Lidocyn 5% ointment) half an hour before going to stool. I was applying and it seemed that I am going to be alright but after few days same pain and discomfort appeared and sometime I am not able to sit also due to this pain. what could be the reason and what should I do?

Hi friend, the pain while passing stool may be due to fissure in the anal canal. It is a linear tear in the skin of the anus. Use of lidocaine gel numbs the area and pain is relieved. However, it is not the curative treatment. The first thing that you should keep your bowel clean and for this use of adequate fibres in diet is necessary. Natural stool softners such as isapghula may be taken. Take sitz bath (sitting in warm water in a tub) may be taken just after passing stool. A soothing antiseptic cream may be applied thereafter. Hope you will feel better after following this regimen.
