What Causes Pain And Stiffness Behind The Knee?

I have pain and tightness in the back of my knees. When I sit for any length of time and try to stand up the back my knees are so tight and painful I have difficulty walking. Though after walking around for a while the stiffness and pain have diminished.

Hi,

Age, gender, for how long have you been suffering from this problem? Associated medical illness or trauma etc., not mentioned. Pain and stiffness behind the knee after changing the position from sitting to standing could be due leg cramps (caused by dehydration), inflamed popliteal bursa (Baker's cyst), sitting in the wrong position for any length of time, or osteoarthritis. I advise you to get examined by an orthopedic surgeon to find out the exact cause and its treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
