What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Neck Muscles?

During the night i felt my neck pop. After that my neck was very stiff and I could not move it without pain or discomfort. It kept me from sleeping most of the night. When I turn my head to the left, it feels like a cramping pain. Turning right I have no problem but looking up or down causes the pain to return. It feels like those muscles are getting really tight when I look up or down. Pain is still there but has lessened as I ve went about my day. What is this and what can I do to help it?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to spasm of neck muscle. You can take analgesics/muscle relaxant combination like aceclofenac/baclofen combination for symptomatic relief. Apply warm compresses also.

Nothing much to worry and you will be fine in a couple of days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
