What Causes Pain And Swelling At The Base Of The Spine?
As of about 3 or 4 days ago I began having pain at the base of my spine. Right about where the butt crack begins. It constantly aches and if any pressure is applied from sitting or touching it, the pain becomes excruciating. It feels like there may be a small area that is swollen, but it does not feel like a bump or something. It almost feels like it goes around the base of my spine instead of being linear, a round ball, or something normal. I ve never really felt swelling like this. I just want to know if I should be concerned or if it s hopefully something that should just pass. I haven t really done anything out of the ordinary except I slept on my sofa the night before the pain began. Hopefully it s just from sleeping on the sofa I guess... Thank you for any help you can offer.
Hi, The pain and tenderness you are feeling near the gluteal cleft is most probably due to a pilonidal abscess. It is due to an infection of an ingrown hair. I suggest you consult a surgeon and get it debrided after a careful general physical and local examination. You will also require a course of antibiotics too.
