What Causes Pain And Vomiting After Pancreactomy?

My son had a total pancreactomy with auto islet cell transplant in March 2011. He has had progessively worsening pain, 15-20 very greasy stools daily, and recently started vomiting after every meal. He is keeping fluid down so he is not dehydrated. He has lost 6 pounds over the past week. Fecal fat test extremely abnormal. can control the pain and no one can figure out why it continues. Any suggestions where to turn?

Your son has symptoms of pancreatic insufficiency which causes the greasy stools and problems with digestion. The pancreas is very important in the digestion and when is not working the way it should, it can make you feel sick .The pain could be due to chronic pancreatitis and pseudocyst, which is an accumulation of fluid in the pancreas mostly in patients with prior pancreatitis. You should have an evaluation with a gastroenterologist to figuire out what is the reason for his symptoms.
