What Causes Pain At Back Of Tongue Or Side Of Gum?

it started with a tonsillitis and i guess gum swelling.I had fever. I can't swallow at the first day. On the second day, i can't speak. On the third day I went to a doctor and prescribed of an antibiotic and a mouth wash. It's my third day today and i think my tonsillitis has gone but still i can feel a pain at the back of my tongue or the side of my gum which makes me harder to eat because i can't chew the food. Please help me what to do...:(

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain if it started with gum swelling and tonsillitis and after taking medicine the throat pain has subsided but you still have pain at the side of gum,it is pointing more towards Pericoronitis that is inflammation of gum flap that lies around the wisdom tooth or covers it partially..

The inflammation occurs due to infection caused by food lodgement between the tooth and the gums..

You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case of Pericoronitis antibiotics, painkillers and localized scaling of the area and doing warm saline gargles can relieve..

Get an x ray done and if the wisdom tooth is found impacted extraction of the same can provide relief..

As of now apply a numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the painful area of the gums for preventing discomfort during eating..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
