What Causes Pain Behind The Left Knee And Swollen Ankle In An Elderly Person?

My Mom is almost 69 years old and had pain behind her left knee, swelling of her ankle and her skin between the ankle and calf was painful to even touch. Her family doctor sent her for an ultrasound today to check for a blood clot but it was negative. They said that it could be a partially ruptured Achilles tendon. She is not that active and that does not make sense to me.

Hello,

Ruptured Achilles tendons can be present although not being very active. I think should send to orthopedic surgeon. MRI of the knee is recommended. We should rule out bursitis too.

For the moment I can only suggest to apply cold compresses locally to reduce swelling. And apply analgesic cream for the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wish you fast recovery.
