Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I just signed up for the affordable care act. My information will be entered into the system on November 15th and my insurance will be activated on January 1st. Recently I ve been experiencing pain below my right shoulder blade which has lasted for about a week and a half. I am also a smoker and am concerned that this could be a sign of cancer. If I was to get an x-ray before January and cancer is found, would my insurance get taken away or would my insurance rat get raised? I don t make a lot of money (about $17,000 dollars a year at 40 hours a week) so I m worried about being able to afford treatment in a worse case scenario. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
If after clinical examination and investigation if doctors suspect malignancy then you need further investigation. I suspect cancer if you have most of associated symptoms like weight loss, anorexia, easy fatigability, persistent cough, persistent pain. I will advise you to do MRI and Ultrasound of shoulder.
You may need further investigation like PET scan to rule out malignancy
