What Causes Pain During Intercourse?

me and wife got married in the month of may 2009 and now i am 27 years old and she is 24 years old and we had not had sex since marriage due to the fear of pain. there is no issue between due to the lack of sex. Both of understand our feelings.we are planning for a child now. We are confused at this stage and need advice on the same. Please advise us what we should do?
