What Causes Pain From The Hips To The Knees?

I did not fall or get into an accident. I literally woke up and have a pain that is in my hip down to by butt and to the side of the knee. At first it was just painful, but now I can’t walk at times. I also noticed that when I coughed it triggered pain in the areas.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have got radicular pain in your limb. It is pain which arises due to nerve root compression in lower spin. Increase in pain with cough is typical sign of this pain. Diagnosis needs to be confirmed by doing MRI of the lumbo sacral spine with screening of whole spine. Usual treatment is strict bed rest for 3 -4 days and Avoid forward bending and weight lifting. Tab pregalin x 75 mg one at bedtime will relieve pain in lower limb. If not relieved in a week please consult orthopedic surgeon nearby your area .

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
