What Causes Pain In Both Sides Of Ribs And Chest Post Injury?

I recently had a fall where I fell between the platform of a train and the stopped train itself. It occurred when I tripped walking off the train. I caught myself so that I did not fall under the platform, but the fall caused pain all throughout my body, especially my hands where I caught myself. Now I have pain in both of my sides (ribs), in my chest, and strangely in my shoulders. I m curious as to whether it has anything to do with a nerve damage issue that may have occurred

Hi,
I understand your concern. I am happy you escaped a risky accident.
The fall down to be trapped between train & platform itself as well as holding the edge of platform to prevent a fall under platform-must have caused lot of external injury like scratches/bruies & also lot of strain to your both hands/shoulders & chest muscles when you tried to hold you up.--- After all of these, it's natural to have pain as you describe.I see least possibility of nerve damage in your case.
Please clean you body & put antiseptic in case of bruises. Take injection .T.T. if there is slightest open wound any where on body.
take rest, hot /cold compresses on painful muscles will help.
Pain killers of NSAID group taken twice a day after food
With this the body pain will start reducing in a couple of days & go in a week.
* In case you find no relief in 5 days/ increasing in spite of treatment You should consult your doctor.
Thanks.

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem is most likely due to muscle strain. Radiating pain to shoulders can be due to injury to spinal nerves. A thorough examination by an orthopedician is necessary to rule out that. For such case i usually advice NSAIDs like aceclofenac muscle relaxants like thiocolchicoside and neurotropic drugs. Short period of rest followed physiotherapy is needed also. Hope this may help you.
Let me know if you have any further queries.
