What Causes Pain In Butt Area?

Hello, I have some pain in my butt area near the left cheek, but it is not near my anus. When I sit down it is really painful, also the skin has hardened a little in the area where I feel the pain and it is swollen. What could be the cause of the pain? My doctor told me that I do have a hemorrohaid but I am not having any pain near my anus. I am wondering if it may be something else?
