What Causes Pain In Foot?

I have been experiencing pain in various parts of my foot over the past several weeks. This past two weeks I have been unable to put any weight on the foot without experiencing fierce sharp pain. I have had x-rays taken and the DR on call said I have a hairline fracture of the ankle. When two different radiologists read the x-rays, they found no fracture. Yet my foot continues to swell. I have been wearing an airboot for the past 10 days. I have an appointment with an ortho guy next week. What could be the problem?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
There is a possibility of minor hairline fracture considering your symptoms. Sometimes fracture is not picked on xrays but it is there and we call it occult fracture. If you are getting better on airboot then continue it for two more weeks and you will be fine as occult fracture heals with rest in 3 weeks. But if you are not going better and pain is worsening then I would and revise mri of foot as it is highly sensitive in diagnosis of minor fracture not picked up on Xray and revised also rules out soft tissue abnormalities. If it turns abnormal show it to your orthopaedic surgeon. All the best.
