What Causes Pain In Knee While Bending?

I am a 64 very active woman, used to playing tennis, taking spin classes and jogging, doing something daily. Had torn meniscus in right knee in 2006 when they cleaned out some arthritis. Now I have pain again, can walk fine but hurts to go down hill, run or bend my knee like in tennis, gardening, etc. XRay showed arthritis in right knee, slight in left. bone alignment was fine. I have stopped all aerobics but walking and doing exercises to strengthen the knee, but they hurt alittle afterward doing the exercises. I heard about boswellia and curcumin as a natural way to relieve the pain and help the joint. I can t live on advil the rest of my life. Do you recommend such a supplement? Been taking glucosamine, etc. calcium for years. Thanks Liz

Hi,Welcome to healthcare magic. After going through your query I think You are suffering from osteoarthritis of both knee joint . Analgesics such as diclofenac slow release tablets is helpful in pain relief which(advil) you are already taking. Diacerinre and glucosmine sulfate protect cartilage from breakdown and help in cartilage regeneration. Quadriceps exercises is started after pain relief. Serum vitamin D test is advised and if it is low than vitamin D supplementation will be required. Boswellia and curcumin is also effective in pain relief but they are not as effective as Diacerinre and glucosmine sulfate however I recommend their trial . You can discuss with your treating doctor. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
