What Causes Pain In Labia Majora And Clitoris?

I am 4 days post total vaginal hysterectomy. I was sent home half way through day two post surgery. My labia majora and clitoris are aching and my stomach skin is burning on the sides. Is this a normal healing response to appear after four days? Side note - I am not overweight, I have been following all post op instructions, I have been up and around for a bit today and passed my first stool today since before the operation. I am relatively constipated and taking softener sand passing small amounts at a time without straining at all.

Hello,

Stitches at the top of the vagina (vaginal vault) are sewn after the removal of the uterus. You will experience pain till the wound completely heals. Clitoris pain may be due to injury during surgery, the pain will disappear when the wound has completely healed. Sometimes nerve damage during surgery may cause pain.

Wound healing takes 6 to 8 weeks but can also take a longer time. Post vaginal surgery the tissues around the vaginal cuff may be less sensitive. Sometimes, the pain at the very top end of the vagina can be neuropathic due to nerves sending abnormal pain signals. Your treating surgeon will prescribe you pain relieving medicines and antibiotics to help faster healing. Do continue to take the prescribed medicines as advised.

Pelvic pain after hysterectomy continues for months along with other symptoms due to scar formation, adhesions, etc. it is considered as a normal healing process. Most surgeons advise women to get plenty of rest during the first few weeks after a hysterectomy, though it is important to get up and move around too. Avoid putting anything in the vagina for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Avoid weightlifting, do not do any heavy work. You should get a follow up clinical check up every 2-3 weeks.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
