Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
for several days now, I have had weak arms/legs...specifically at night my legs-its like a tingling but oftentimes painful..I am a 35 year old smoker and I love beer...I can walk..but if I stop too long that pain comes back....even as I write now, sitting in my chair, i feel the wierd numb sometimes annoying pain.....
Like the pain you are facing is guiding me towards the disc injury in the lumbar spine leading to symptoms of pain.
As you are smoking, this will lead to capillaries having constricted leading to less blood supply to the muscles and spasm is the result, leading to nerve compression and the symptoms.
Doing exercises like core stability, spinal muscle stretching and strengthening, along with hip and lower limb strengthening will help reduce the symptoms. Also, posture correction is advised.
In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most cases with similar complaints have recovered with conservative management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
