What Causes Pain In Neck, Ear Before And After Bowel Movement?

Hi.. Since a year or so, 15-20 minutes before the bowel movement, I have pain in left side of the neck and around the left ear. Sometimes the pain also radiates on left side of forehead. After the bowel movement, the pain subsides in 10-15 min. I would also like to add that 2 years back, I had a stiff neck with point that hurt most right behind left ear. I have taken physical therapy but the pain there keeps coming back. Is there something else going on in the body? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The pain you hear on the neck and around left ear could be related to straining too long and too much while you have bowel movements.

Please do not hold your breathe while passing the motion.
I'd also suggest to

- get your ear checked by an ENT specialist.
- monitor your blood pressure
- do abdominal ultrasound

All the best!
