What Causes Pain In Right Side Of My Temple?

I have sharp pain on the right side of my temple that last for a split second and then continue to strike every two seconds or so then every few minutes and sometimes continuing for several episodes say about 15 to 30 minutes. This is been going on for a couple of weeks. Should I see a doctor?

Hello!

Thank you for your question on HCM! I appreciate your concern.

I think the symptoms you describe are caused by a trigeminal neuralgia.

I would like to know your age. This is a common condition in persons older than 50 years , without any obvious cause found, but when in happens in young persons other causes should be investigated .

I recommend you to consult with a neurologist for a careful physical examination. A brain MRI scan may be necessary to exclude a possible intracranial lesion.

As for the treatment I would recommend to start carbamazepine or gabapentine.

Hope to have been helpful !

Greetings! Dr. Aida
