What Causes Pain In The Left Side Of The Stomach Area?

I am a morbidly obese female with pain on left side of waist/stomach area around the lower part of ribcage. The pain is felt upon getting up from a sitting position, applying pressure to the area or when sleeping on stomach. Do you know what this could be?
