What Causes Pain In The Lower Left Side Around The Stomach?

For the past 3 or 4 days now I ve been having some mid to major pain in my lower left side around my stomach not when I breathe but when I take in a deep breath. I ve also been constipated for these few days as well, its been hard to go. I don t know if this has anything to do with these symptoms but I will go ahead and say it. I ve been recovering (About a Mount and a half) from a Major Open Heart surgery to repair a faulty Heart Valve (Aortic) so I have a artificial Heart Valve. So I m taking Warfarin 7.5 every day and Hydroco for pain when needed. Any suggestions on why I m having this pain in my left side?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of pain in the left lower abdomen on deep breathing, constipation for the past 3-4 days, had a major heart surgery one and half month ago to repair the aortic valve by replacement. Hence taking Warfarin 7.5 every day and Hydrocodone when in pain.
I would advise you the following:
Stop hydrocodone as it is known to give constipation.
Take laxative to have easy evacuation.
send stool, blood for tests and ultrasonography of the abdomen.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position to see if there is fecolith formation and if yes, and getting evacuated by laxatives you would need an enema.

I find this answer helpful
