What Causes Pain In The Shoulder Blade?

I have had a sore back shoulder 2 months. Pain is high left shoulder blade betw arm and neck. I do not remember hurting it, but almost certainly continue to aggravate it with lifting (eg groceries, luggage), which I am trying to cut back on. Advil does not seem to help, movement/stretching helps, standing helps. Sleeping is difficult unless I sleep on my back which is not my usual position or I can sleep on my opposite side ok. Turning in bed or while driving, drives the pain. No other problems. Suggestions?
