What Causes Pain, Inflammation And Stiffness On The Knee?

Yesterday, I noticed fairly sudden pain, inflammation and stiffness on the side of my knee. I was unable to bend my leg without significant pain. I thought it had something to do with my knee joint. However, today I have had significant pain and numbness in my left arm and suddenly I can bend my knee again without significant pain. I m worried I had a blood clot that moved. Ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, X-ray of affected joint and uric acid levels may be needed, as joint pathologies like Osteoarthritis or infective causes like septic or crystal arthropathy needs to be ruled out. If normal can be due to ligament tear or soft tissue Inflammation.

Will also need neurological examination for numbness as nerve involvement should also be ruled out. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
