Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I keep getting cramps from below my knee all the way to my feet. I drink water when I go to bed. I have hypothyriodism and I take a generic of Synthriod. My doctor has lowered my dosage to 88mg. I get these cramps when I m sleeping and they wake me up and I have to get up and try to walk them out. This is very frustrating because I work nights and I have to sleep during the day, which is hard enough. I m 62 years old and I m going to retire soon. Could the hypothyriodism be causing the cramps? I do want to mention also that I m taking potassium. I started trying that because I had heard that sometimes that is why we get cramps, low potassium.
Hi Welcome to healhcaremagic After going through your query I concluded that you there are having muscle cramps probably these are due to hypothyroidism. You can visit your physician, get your T3,T4 and TSH done. Probably you need to increase dose of thyroxine. You are also advised to take vitamins and trace elements supplements as this is also one of cause of muscles cramps. Another cause is vitamin D3 deficiency so get its levels checked and take supplements if it is low.You can discuss with your Doctor about it. Hope your query get answered.
