What Causes Pain Under Rib Cage Of A Child?

my 7 year old son has been complaining with pain on the right side under the bottom part of his rib cage for four days. it is tender in that area when I touch it..he still plays, but will sit down occasionally because it hurts him..I thought maybe it might be bowel related, but he has been going to the bathroom good..he is pale. was wondering about appendicitis, but everything I have read is lower part of stomach, this is right under the bottom rib on his right side...
