What Causes Pain Under The Rib Cage And Headache After Eating The Food?

Hello, my name is Cathy I am 58 years old and I think I have gall bladder disease. When I eat I get a pain underneath the right rib cage, this gets worse and goes trough to the back, then the pain goes to my sternum through to the back and the pain is so intense, I cannot move or hardly breathe. I have had had right sided headaches, profuse sweating and chills, white chalky stools and stools with blood in the stool. I rang an ambulance last night after trying panadol, endone and gaviscon P liquid and they gave me IN fentanyl. I went to the local hospital. All they did was take blood. No ultrasound or HIDA SCAN and sent me home and said see your GP. I am so upset and don t know whether to go to a bigger hospital as I know I m going to get the same pain back tonight. What do you think?

Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of having pain in abdomen on the right side below the rib cage after eating , get referred pain in the back and the sternum area, the pain can be intense that you can not move, also get headache on right side, has profuse sweating and chills, Went to ER and local hospital but they send you back home after IV Fantanyl and ask to report to the GP. No ultrasound or HIDA scan.
Since you are getting pain in the abdomen on right side that goes to the back, and to the sternum, this can be due to gall bladder disease, gastric ulcer and so on.
This can be diagnosed by upper GI Endoscopy and Ultrasonography. I would advise the following:
Ask your GP to see you, have investigations if possible for him to order and send you to the Gastroenterologist as he can go for additional investigations and plan for further management.
