Hi. Thanks for your query in HCM. I am Dr. Aliem, and I am pleased to answer your query.
Your symptoms indicate that you are probably having Fissure-in-ano, i.e, a small tear in the mucosa that covers your
anal canal. This causes pain during defecation which may be severe, and tightness of anal opening.
The following may be helpful to ease the discomfort:
1. Take a lot of fiber and water - I am happy that you are already taking it
2. Take regular Sitz baths - i.e Fill your bath tub (or an ordinary plastic basin) with Luke warm water. Keep your anal orifice immersed into it for about 15-20 mins. This may be done twice daily.
3. Try taking mild laxatives, available in powder form
If the problem persists, consult your gastroenterologist or surgeon. He/she may give you some
ointments to be applied locally deep into your anal canal for pain relief. If it is resistant to all these, there are some minor surgeries that may provide cure.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask me further queries in this issue, if any.
