Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m having trouble swallowing because swallowing causes pain and it s hard to get food or liquids down. I m also experiencing something like hot flashes (but I m 83) and occasional feelings of nausea. Right now (I m neither eating or drinking) I feel some pain in the back of my throat or esophagus, I don t know which. It s nothing like a sore throat. I often cough shortly after I lie down. I ve been diagnosed with GERD and have been treating it with diet.
You could have symptoms of GERD but if you are having such difficulties with being unable to swallow i would suggest seeing a specialist to do a gastroscopy (if not done recenlty) to rule out something more serious.
Kind regards
